Trust comes before presentation
Measures need agreed definitions, ownership, refresh timing, and source lineage. A visually polished view cannot compensate for disputed or unexplained numbers.
Show context and exceptions
Decision-makers need targets, comparisons, trend direction, material exceptions, and the ability to move from summary to the level where the issue can be understood.
Connect the measure to ownership
A decision-ready view makes the responsible area, initiative, process, or owner clear. Otherwise the dashboard may create awareness without creating accountability.
Design the next action
The next step may be a drill-through, review note, assigned action, approval, case, or linked workflow. The interface should make the intended response obvious without overcrowding the view.
